This week’s electrogram interpretation:
What is observed in this electrogram with CS pacing?
Answer
No Capture
- This example demonstrates pacing at a fixed rate from CS 9,10.
- Notice how the atrial signal appears before the pacing artifact. With proximal CS pacing, atrial capture should occur. The patient’s intrinsic rate is faster than the pacing rate.
- In order to effectively capture the atrial tissue, the pacing rate needs to be increased.
- This is a common mistake seen when capture is not occurring. Other things that may lead to a lack of tissue capture include too low of a pacing output, no tissue contact, and the wrong pacing channel selected.
